"Where to start....my wife and i decided that after 40 years since last we holidayed in Cyprus, that we should return for a 2 week holiday, so were to choose to go on the island was a big decision, as when we were younger we always went to Limassol, but agreed we would like to try a different resort, so having researched the different resorts and Hotels in them, we decided on The Sunrise Jade Hotel (an Adults Only Hotel) in Protaras....talk about winning the lottery, that's what it felt like when we arrived, the hotel is a 5 star Hotel which is located just on the outskirts of Protaras.
Having arrived in the late afternoon we were tired but excited for getting there, as you enter the hotel you are greeted by very friendly staff both at the entrance and at reception, our cases and bags were taken from us by the hotel porter and delivered to our allocated deluxe sea view room (which we had booked in advance through our holiday company) at the reception we were given a cold refreshing drink which was most welcome after a 4.5 hour flight and 1 hour drive from Manchester UK to Larnaca Airport Cyprus, so after having checked in we proceeded to our room, unpacked and decided to explore the hotel and grounds plus the pool area which incidentally overlooks a bay known locally as Turtle Bay.
The main pool area has a swim up bar were you can relax and enjoy a drink of your choice from the bars drink and food menu, getting into the pool (especially for us oldies) is very easy due to the pool having 2 sloping walkways going into the pool one on either side of it. the sun loungers (which come in pairs plus a parasol) in both the grounds and around the pool area's are allocated, meaning you do not have the stress of wondering if there is a lounger available for you to sunbathe, these are allocated to you by the Towel guy who located close to the pool each day (he will supply you with daily towels for them) another added bonus is that each set of sun loungers through out the hotel grounds and pool area's come with a QR code attached to the parasol which when using your smart phone you can order food and drinks to be brought directly to you so you never have to leave you sun lounger if you wish...brilliant!!!
there is also an infinity pool next to the main pool this has decking around it, but is just as enjoyable as being around the main pool.
The hotel has its main Restaurant area for meals which can be enjoyed either outside on it's covered terrace (overlooking both the pool area and both the gardens and bay) or you can dine inside for those that prefer eating indoors, the indoor/outdoor area is known as the Sage Restaurant, all meals are buffet service in this one, it also has a live cooking area, there is also another restaurant situated on the first floor above the main restaurant this is the Asian Fusion Restaurant, which you need to book in advance and is a waiter service one, also there is another restaurant situated at the side of the hotel which is part of it, this one is called The American Bar and Grill, and can be booked from a console situated inside reception next to the hotel shop as can Asian Fusion if you wish.
Apart from the swim up bar in the pool area, the Hotel also has a Bar situated inside in the Lounge area which is near the exit/entrance to the pool from reception, there are 2 lifts taking you to all 5 floors, there are also swim-up rooms situated at ground level and they all overlook the pool area, these come with there own Sun Bed, but you can still have allocated sun loungers around either pool or garden area's subject to availability in your preferred area.
The main part of Protaras is approx 10/15 min stroll from the Hotel to the night life, consisting of shops, bars and restaurants, but if you do not want to walk into the area there is a bus stop at the top of the road from the hotel and it is situated on the main road opposite and will cost 2 euros per person one way, it is approx a 2/3 minute walk to it from the Hotel Entrance, the walk or the bus will take you to the heart of all the night life (known locally as The Strip), catch the Bus Numbered 101 going there and the 102 to return (the 102 will drop you off near the road back to the hotel) or if you wish you can walk back to the Hotel, and burn off the calories.
As for the Hotel Staff, we cannot praise them enough, everyone, the Hotel Manager, the Cleaning staff, the bar staff inside and outside, the restaurant staff (including all the Chefs), the grounds people, the poolside towel guys, and finally the happiest Reception Staff i have met (whom i asked everyday "are you happy?" to which they always replied with a big smile and a YES), so to sum it all up, if i could i would give the hotel and staff 6 stars, and if you are looking for a quiet relaxing holiday in the sun then look no further, my wife and i will certainly be going back to this Beautiful Hotel again."
