"Nice facility, but unfortunately with significant weaknesses
We stayed at this hotel for 10 days and had a very mixed impression overall.
The location and the facility itself are really nice. The hotel is located directly by the sea and is beautifully embedded in the landscape. However, the entire facility is located on a partially quite steep hillside. Depending on where the room is located, the paths to the restaurant and other facilities can be correspondingly long.
You can walk down to the sea between the buildings via paths. There are sunbathing areas there with umbrellas and lounge chairs, which, however, cost extra. Alternatively, you can use the lawn areas, which are also located on the hillside. If you walk further toward the next campsite, there are other nice sunbathing areas on a meadow under trees.
However, what we did not know when booking: The Porto Sole campsite belongs to or borders the hotel, and its guests can also use the hotel's facilities. These include, among other things, the pool, lounge chairs, and other facilities. When the hotel and campsite are fully booked, it becomes correspondingly very crowded.
From our perspective, this fact should be mentioned more clearly in the hotel description.
Room and cleanliness – unfortunately disappointing
The biggest point of criticism for us was clearly the cleaning of the room. Unfortunately, there was no sign of the kind of cleaning we would expect from a 4-star hotel. In our opinion, it was only cleaned superficially.
The towels were changed daily and toilet paper was refilled. The trash cans were also emptied, though not every day. However, a proper cleaning of the bathroom did not take place during our entire 10-day stay.
In the bathroom, there was mold in the joints of the shower tray and heavy limescale deposits. The shower stall was completely covered in limescale, as were the faucet and shower head. The water in the sink drained only very slowly.
The vanity, shower, and toilet were not cleaned properly even once during our entire stay. We found that really disappointing for a 4-star hotel and, in some respects, simply unhygienic.
The bed was also only made on the first day. On all subsequent days, it remained exactly as we had left it after getting up.
Housekeeping was therefore unfortunately a big disappointment for us and, in our view, does not meet the standard one can expect from a 4-star hotel.
Food and drinks
Unfortunately, the food in the hotel restaurant did not convince us either. For us, the restaurant had more of the character of a company cafeteria. The dishes were sometimes tasteless or overcooked. It is a shame about the food, because with a little more care, certainly much more could be achieved here.
There was also little positive to say about the drinks for us: The beer was very thin and tasted almost like water with a slight hop note. The white wine had a distinct vinegar taste for our palate. The non-alcoholic drinks were predominantly very sweet, and the water also had a slight chlorine taste.
In our opinion, less would be significantly more here, provided the quality is better.
Very positive: the staff
We would like to explicitly mention the staff in the restaurant in a positive light. Despite the daily chaos and the fact that there were obviously far too few seats for the many guests, the staff were always friendly and eager to help.
Especially under these difficult conditions, they left a good impression.
Our recommendation
For those who still want to vacation at this facility, a new mobile home could be an interesting alternative. There, you can provide for yourself and are not dependent on the hotel restaurant.
Another very good option is Oli's Grillgarten, which is very close by. We ate there a total of three times during our stay and were very satisfied every time. The food was very delicious every time, the quality was really good, and we also found the prices to be absolutely reasonable. For us, Oli's Grill was therefore a significantly better alternative to eating at the hotel.
Our conclusion
The complex and the location are really beautiful and we generally liked them. The friendly staff should also be highlighted positively.
Unfortunately, the inadequate room cleaning, the condition of the bathroom, and the food in the hotel restaurant significantly dampened our overall impression. Especially the fact that no thorough cleaning of the bathroom and toilet took place during ten days was incomprehensible to us.
Anyone who mainly values the beautiful location and the complex and perhaps provides for themselves in a mobile home or goes out to eat can certainly spend a nice vacation here. However, anyone expecting the standard that is normally associated with a 4-star hotel should adjust their expectations accordingly, especially regarding cleanliness and gastronomy."
