"The hotel is small but immaculately clean and friendly. It seemed to have many repeat visitors. The bedroom was a good size with two decent sized single beds which could be moved together or apart, plenty of storage space, an ensuite toilet and bath with shower over with constant hot water, and a balcony with a washing line. The room was tidied every day, with clean linen provided on alternate days. Two small shampoo/conditioner samples were provided but not replaced. The room's drink making facilities are a kettle, mini fridge and two tiny cups. Breakfast is a small cold buffet selection of cheeses, salad, meat, olives, tinned fruit cocktail, croissants and plain cake. There is self service tea and coffee, honey and red jam. A cooked breakfast is made to order.
The pool area is what made me only give 3/5. It is right next to a noisy and very busy road with intrusive exhaust fumes, and open access onto the pavement. The pool is very clean and 6ft deep, but small with a very steep slippery slope at the shallow end, so not really suited to children unless they're wearing inflatables and closely supervised.
The hotel is well situated for access to Rhodes town and the airport. Buses are cheap and run both ways to Rhodes town and the airport roughly every 15 mins from stops right outside the hotel. We used the public buses to go into Rhodes Town and from there to Lindos and Faliraki. We could also have caught one to the Butterfly Valley from outside the hotel.
The road the hotel is on has a large supermarket (food downstairs, household goods and CATFOOD upstairs) which is shut on Sundays. There are a couple of smaller shops and kiosks along the road for essentials. There are several restaurants along the road, though many people just eat at the hotel and bar.
The hotel and nearby shingle beach (10 min walk with choice of two sunbed areas with food and drinks for sale, toilets etc for €5 a day), and kite surfing school, are a plane spotters' dream. They go over very low. The noise is initially startling but we very quickly stopped noticing it except for when we were in bed with the balcony door open.
For cat lovers, there are several colonies, the biggest being on the road to the beach. They appreciate offerings of cat treats. There was no hotel cat, but several restaurants have them.
THINGS YOU MIGHT WANT TO TAKE OR BUY AS SOON AS YOU ARRIVE : Tea, coffee, milk, big mugs, whatever you like on your toast (the supermarket sells marmalade but not as we know it), clothes pegs, mosquito paraphernalia, sun bed towels and clips as the beach is windy, and of course cat treats.
I RECOMMEND a day trip to Lindos if you're reasonably fit as it is all steep steps and winding narrow streets, and its coliseum is a steep trek. Take a boat trip to Simi Island but choose one that gives you plenty of time in Ano Symi rather than lots of swim stops. Simi can be reached by ferry if you prefer to go it alone. Chalki (Halki) Island is also supposed to be a nice day out with pretty painted houses. A day in Rhodes Town is recommended and we used the hop on hop off bus (€20pp) to do two circuits of the town to orientate ourselves and see the sights, views and outlying sites, then walked around the harbour, old town walls and old town shopping area. We didn't get around to seeing Butterfly Valley but heard good reports of the scenery and walks, though the butterflies are not the big colourful ones you might hope for.
Don't expect lively nightlife, but enjoy relaxed meals, warm sea and friendly locals. Oh, and a warning....the meals are massive, particularly the starters, sides and anything described as a portion meal."
