"Unfortunately, our stay at the Clarion Hotel Old Town Prague was very disappointing and certainly did not feel like the standard we expected from a Clarion hotel. We booked via Booking.com which rated this hotel as a 4.3/5.
Cleanliness and housekeeping were a major issue. The rooms were visibly tired and in need of significant refurbishment, with stained furniture, marks and writing on the walls and generally worn-looking furnishings. The sofa bed in particular was badly stained. The overall impression was that the room had not been properly maintained for some time. This was the same for both rooms on our booking.
Housekeeping also seemed to do the absolute bare minimum. There was a tick-box card to indicate exactly what you required during your stay, including things such as fresh towels, toilet roll, coffee and linens. Despite completing this, the requests were frequently ignored. On occasions, coffee was replenished but the used mugs were not replaced or cleaned. This was particularly frustrating as we also spoke directly to housekeeping about the issues, yet they continued to happen.
There was very little instruction from the front desk upon check in, in regard to housekeeping and the tick box, and it was only upon turning over the do not disturb sign that we noted the same. However, the front desk staff were happy to assist throughout our stay and cannot be faulted.
The adjoining rooms were another significant problem. There was effectively only a single door separating the rooms, rather than adequate soundproofing. This meant that every morning we could hear the guests next door clearly, when they put the television/news on. And the adjoining room light flooded our bedroom each time it was turned on also. We were consequently being woken at around 6am every morning. This completely spoiled what should have been a relaxing stay. We had a second room on our booking which faced the inner courtyard which faced the same issues, but in addition our family were awoken by staff hanging out of windows having tab breaks and talking early morning from the staff room or sitting in the courtyard itself.
Breakfast was also disappointing. The selection was relatively small and some of the food, particularly the bread and pastries/croissants, appeared stale rather than fresh.
The hotel does have a good location for exploring Prague, but unfortunately the condition of the rooms, poor housekeeping, noise from adjoining rooms and disappointing breakfast really let it down.
Overall, the hotel needs some serious TLC and much better attention to housekeeping and maintenance. Based on our experience, we would not choose to stay here again unless refurbished.
It is also to note, the rooms themselves do not have kettles as confirmed within all advertisements and responses on Tripadvisor, booking.com etc. The rooms have the equivalent to a Nespresso pod machine which offers hot water, we raised this with reception as we chose this hotel specifically for the kettle for hot water bottles to ensure we did not have to travel with a travel kettle for the few days we stayed, reception informed us to use the Nespresso pod machine to fill the hot water bottles as this would be adequate and provided the same service… safe to say, it did not and of course was a tedious process to fill the hot water bottles themselves."
