Clayton Hotel Glasgow

"The hotel is in a great location and the hotel itself is nice. Clean, comfortable seating areas and nicely designed restaurant. We had an itison deal which included dinner. Dinner was awful. The goats cheese tart starter was a soggy bought in pastry case with chunks of cheese that appeared to be fake goats cheese and some chunks of beetroot. Nothing was cooked just dumped in the casing. Our bottle of wine didn’t appear and we had to ask for it after we received our starter. The main courses were chicken and fish. The chicken was boring and dry, only saved by the gravy. Dessert was meant to be compressed watermelon with cinnamon but appeared to be plain chunks left over from breakfast. Overall a very disappointing meal. A shame as the bar snacks looked much nicer! I don’t like leaving poor reviews but I’m sure dinner has the potential to be much better."

"We arrived at the hotel after disembarking from our cruise ship, and unfortunately, our taxi driver had difficulty accessing the entrance. There didn't appear to be a designated area for dropping off guests and luggage, which made our arrival a little frustrating. The hotel itself is something of a rabbit warren, with a rather confusing layout. Fortunately, a very friendly and helpful staff member saw us outside and came to our assistance, letting us in and operating a special lift so we didn't have to carry our luggage up stairs. However, getting to our room was another challenge. After checking in, we had to go down a level, wheel our luggage through the bar area, and locate a completely different set of lifts to reach our room. Not the most convenient arrangement, particularly when travelling with luggage. On the positive side, the hotel is in an excellent location overlooking the River Clyde, within easy walking distance of Glasgow's city centre, shops, restaurants and attractions. There is also a bus stop directly outside, which is very convenient. We stayed in Room 1206, which was fairly standard but perfectly adequate, with lovely large windows overlooking the river. The room was quiet, and the bed was comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep. The hotel has an onsite restaurant and bar. We enjoyed an evening meal at the restaurant, which was reasonable but nothing particularly special. A definite highlight was the staff, who were consistently friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful."

"Our second stay here overnight for a theatre trip. The Clayton is in a great location and has a lovely atmosphere and charm to the reception area. Check in was effortless and friendly and our room overlooked the Clyde. Our room was clean and as ever the bathroom was spotless with a fantastic walk in shower. Breakfast was plentiful and the restaurant is a lovely space to start your day. We enjoyed our overnight stay and no doubt we will return sometime in the future."
