"We spent a week at Long Beach Resort in Hurghada for our honeymoon, and honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to go. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed, looked after and completely at home.
Travelling as a same-sex couple
We travelled to Egypt as two women on our honeymoon, and before coming we took the time to read about Egyptian culture and understand the customs and expectations.
We knew that same-sex marriage is not legally recognised in Egypt, and that public displays of affection are generally not part of the culture for couples — regardless of whether they are same-sex or heterosexual. We were completely respectful of this throughout our holiday and never expected Egyptian culture to change for us.
What really stood out, though, was that this was never pushed onto us as guests at the resort. We were simply treated with kindness and respect.
During our week, we got to know some of the staff really well. They knew we were together, knew we were on our honeymoon, and still made our holiday absolutely perfect. We had conversations, laughs, photographs and built genuine friendships with some of the people working there.
For us, that was really lovely. We respected the culture we were visiting, and in return we experienced nothing but kindness and hospitality.
The staff make this resort special
The staff are absolutely fantastic. Everyone we came across — from reception and the bars to the restaurants, housekeeping, bus drivers, engineers and grounds staff — was polite, friendly and willing to go above and beyond to help.
Whilst tipping is a normal part of Egyptian culture, there is absolutely no pressure to tip. However, because of how genuinely lovely the staff are and the friendships you create with them during your stay, tipping honestly felt like the least we could do. It is always appreciated, no matter how big or small the amount.
We have to give some very special shout-outs to a few people who made our honeymoon even more memorable.
Adel – Eclipse Pool Bar
Adel was absolutely brilliant. He went above and beyond to look after us throughout our stay.
He kept us shaded from the sun by moving the parasol throughout the day as the sun moved, saved our sunbeds with towels when we went off for food or drinks, and even created some amazing towel animals for us.
Those little touches made such a difference and really showed how much care he puts into looking after his guests.
Mina – Eclipse Pool Bar
Mina was another person who became part of our daily routine. He was always there with a friendly face, keeping us topped up with drinks and enjoying good conversation with us.
He was warm, welcoming and genuinely lovely to see around the pool each day. It was those simple interactions that helped make our holiday feel so personal.
Hamdy Hosny – Lobby Bar
Hamdy Hosny at the Lobby Bar was always so friendly, welcoming and happy to have a chat. Another person who helped make our evenings that little bit more special.
Fox – Sky Bar
And, of course, Fox at the Sky Bar, who makes absolutely amazing cocktails!
You cannot visit the Sky Bar without trying one of Fox's creations. His cocktails were fantastic, and he was another member of the team who helped make our evenings memorable.
These are just a few of the staff who stood out to us, but honestly, there were so many others who made our week special. We ended up taking photographs with several members of staff, which really says something about how comfortable and welcomed we felt.
The relationships we built with the staff became one of our favourite parts of the holiday. They weren't simply people serving us drinks or working around the resort — they became familiar, friendly faces that we looked forward to seeing every day.
Food and drinks
There is food available from early morning right through until 1am, so there is never really an opportunity to go hungry throughout the complex!
The buffet always has something for everyone and, even if you have the fussiest of eaters, you can always find something to enjoy.
The à la carte restaurants are definitely worth visiting, even if you don't have the black bands included with your stay. We paid for meals such as the Mexican restaurant and honestly felt that the money was well spent. The food and experience were absolutely worth it.
Getting around the resort
The resort is large, but the bus service is brilliant and definitely saves your legs!
It makes getting to the beach, Cascade, the slides and reception really easy. We also enjoyed taking the bus around the complex and discovering different areas of the resort.
There is so much to explore that you really don't feel stuck in one part of the hotel.
Entertainment
There was different entertainment on throughout the evenings, so there was always something going on.
The pool party was amazing, especially for children. We saw so many kids having an absolute blast and really enjoying themselves.
The Sky Bar also shows football, although it is worth checking what they have planned during your particular stay if there is something specific you want to watch.
Reception and taxis
The reception team were fantastic and incredibly helpful whenever we needed anything, whether that was a room change, arranging a late checkout or simply answering questions.
The taxi service available at reception is safe and reassuring. You can book a return journey through them, and when you arrive at your destination, you are handed over to another trusted person who ensures you get into the correct taxi back to the hotel.
This gave us a lot of peace of mind when travelling outside the resort.
A little tip if you have a late flight
One thing worth knowing before you arrive: if you have a late flight, you may initially be put into a different room on arrival.
We had read about this before coming, so we were prepared and didn't let it put us off.
In fact, we appreciated being able to get some sleep before moving rooms the following day.
Reception made the whole process incredibly easy, and we were supported with moving our belongings from one room to the other. We were even provided with a vehicle to help us move around the complex.
It was all handled smoothly and without any stress.
Exploring Hurghada
We also visited the marina, which was amazing. There was lots to see, and the Egyptian people we met around there were lovely and welcoming.
We even got the opportunity to see and stroke a camel, which was a brilliant experience.
We also saw lots of dogs around the marina, and they were surprisingly calm and gentle.
Things to be aware of
There are people who work in the shops, spas and other businesses within the resort who may come around, particularly around the main pool, to tell you about what they are selling or the services they offer.
They can be persistent, but we found that if you were simply polite and said "no thank you", they accepted it.
It's just part of the resort experience and certainly wouldn't stop us from returning.
Overall ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was an absolutely fantastic honeymoon, and Long Beach Resort gave us everything we could have hoped for and more.
This was my second trip to Egypt, having previously visited Sharm El Sheikh, but without a doubt I would return to Hurghada — and, more importantly, I would return to Long Beach Resort.
The combination of the beautiful resort, huge range of food and drinks, entertainment, facilities, helpful transport around the complex and, most importantly, the incredible staff made this a holiday we will never forget.
We would absolutely love to return one day with our children, because we know they would have an amazing time here too.
Thank you to everyone at Long Beach Resort who helped make our honeymoon so special. From the reception team to the bar staff, restaurant staff, housekeeping, bus drivers, engineers and grounds staff — every single person played a part in making our stay so memorable.
We arrived as guests and left with so many wonderful memories, hundreds of photographs and quite a few new friendships along the way.
We genuinely couldn't have asked for a better honeymoon. Long Beach, we'll be back! 🇪🇬❤️"
