"For the first time, we booked a 3*** hotel on Fuerte, primarily because of the beautiful beach. This was our 5th trip to the island. One might think we could compare.
The hotel staff at the reception made a friendly impression.
Due to the numerous defects, I will limit myself to the absolute highlights:
Room:
Was sold to us as "Apt. Type B, Premium".
-recognizably renovated.
-no air conditioning
-USB charging ports by the bed, unfortunately without a power connection. The caretaker confirmed this via charger, not via measuring device. Never seen again after that
-the shower head holder was broken, so the shower head hung in the basket. At least this was repaired on the same day.
-room cleaning was announced every 3 days. After the 4th. day complaint and one, I emphasize, a single cleaning in 12 days. We simply put the trash bags in the hallway starting from the 8th. day. The cleaning sign on our door was permanently ignored. It is probably more of a prop for guests, I think. Or the room service staff was simply too distracted by the constant use of ear pods. (Almost all of them)
-Bed linen change was scheduled for the 7th. day: Actually, we asked on the 8th. day. The only change ironically took place the day before our departure.
Conclusion: The staff at the reception desk always took diligent notes, but acted as if they hear this regularly.
Pool:
At the very small pool, there was a daily battle for spots by or in the water.
The strange color of the water ensured that we were in it very rarely. For the first time on Fuerte, I didn't spend a single second in the pool.
Sun deck with whirlpool:
It was a nice experience. However, large Spanish families in particular ignored the age requirements for use. As soon as the pool attendant was gone, it regularly turned into a happening. And we all know what 1-2 year old children do in such warm pools…
At some point, something broke and it was temporarily unusable for anyone.
Food:
It was acceptable overall, assuming it is a 3*** hotel. However, just like in 4*** hotels, there were families at the dining table here who missed the last 100 years of evolution. English and Spanish guests took the top spots here.
Furthermore, there were always too few dessert spoons. A real mystery…
Note on the topic of food:
Some families had booked without a meal plan and used the kitchenettes extensively. Presumably Spanish guests then started cooking next door at around 11:00 PM. That was, of course, great. (Irony) The ones who really took the cake were those who started grilling on the balcony in the afternoon. On the sun deck, everyone thought there was a fire in a room below them. I have never seen the staff that agitated again. (Yes, we were witnesses)
WI-FI:
Has a cumbersome login. Speed was good.
I'm sure I've forgotten something. But this should be enough to get an impression.
Overall conclusion:
Unfortunately, location isn't everything. We enjoyed every day on Fuerte (outside of the hotel). The beach is the best on the island. We had 5-10m of space in every direction and the water was great.
We would love to come back to the island. However, the hotel experience tells us that we will never book a 3*** hotel again. The fact that this was not the standard, however, is shown to me by the hotel's ranking in the bottom third on this website.
To the hotel:
Dear hotel staff,
No, you do not need to comment on this review or try to downplay it by saying it was an exception and that the shortcomings would be addressed.
I have heard this 5x personally at the reception. One-time failures are acceptable and are accepted with a plausible justification. This was not the case here."
