"We booked a “Superior Double Room with Sea View,” which the listing explicitly advertises with a private terrace and outdoor shower. No outdoor shower was ever provided in our room.
On arrival, the balcony door lock didn’t work, leaving the room unsecured. We reported this to reception and asked to be moved to a different room. We were told nothing could be done that day and to come back to reception the next day — met with a dismissive attitude and zero customer service. Only after pushing back twice in person did staff finally send a technician, who fixed the lock that evening — about 1.5 hours after we first raised it. Had we not pushed, we’d have been left in an unsecured room overnight. As it was, our entire first evening was spent dealing with this instead of enjoying the resort — and by the time it was resolved, we were too exhausted to pursue the room change further and just unpacked. No one from the hotel ever followed up to check if we were satisfied.
First impressions matter, and this is where the hotel really let itself down. You get a welcome drink, sat down at the lobby bar, and that’s it — not a word about how the resort works, the room, or anything else. No proper check-in briefing at all. It genuinely felt like “thank you for the money, off you go, fend for yourself.” We only had one small, lukewarm bottle of water on arrival for two people, with an otherwise completely empty fridge, and no one mentioned free water was actually available at the pool as part of the all-inclusive package. Basics like towels and toilet paper had to be requested via an app rather than provided as standard. Barceló’s own all-inclusive terms elsewhere promise daily-replenished water as standard — that wasn’t our experience here at all.
We sent a detailed written complaint on our first evening and received no reply for days. A second follow-up also went unanswered. We eventually managed to get a face-to-face meeting with the manager after chasing multiple times — he listened politely, but no compensation or resolution was offered.
A few other disappointments: the adjacent restaurant Magical was seriously overpriced for minimal portions — a real letdown. The buffet food was average at best. The local beach is tiny and nothing to write home about.
To be fair, the hard-working staff around the resort (housekeeping, restaurant floor staff) were doing their best — it’s just a shame reception set such a poor tone from the very start. Honestly, it was so poorly executed overall that I don’t understand some of the raving reviews out there — people clearly have very different standards."
