"I’m writing this review as a mid fifties couple. i am certainly NOT the demographic this hotel aims at. Still, it might have some value - even if negative.
Now, we go to the same clubs, bubble parties, and all the rest the kids do - but we probs also look for a bit of comfort when heading back to our hotels. This is not the place for that.
What a mega club is for nightlife (like UNVRS) Ibiza Rocks is for hotels. It’s more like a university campus, or dorm room meets bee colony. There’s a little bar inside, a convince store (overpriced but accessible), it would be great for 20-30’s looking for location and bare bones access to the clubs.
Want to be fair to the hotel - they deal with tens of thousands of kids coming through here each year. If the 12am, 3am, and 5am knocks on all the doors in the hall are any indication - many of them flat out drunk and partying. So the staff act more as camp coucilers rather than typical hotel staff. There are lots of signs saying ‘don’t be rude to staff or we will kick you out’ - lots of security, and firm rules of what not to do.
I guess the first introduction was the concert bracelet that strap onto you wrist at check in… You can’t take it off for your entire stay.. Huh? Again - I don’t really want to go all around ibiza for a week advertising that we’re staying at Ibiza Rocks - icckkky… But them the rules..
THE ROOM
Ours was a Pool Plus or something - so it’s big, with a balcony. NICE! Three beds for two people. Except they put us in room overlooking the pool that was closed for the season (we arrived late for closing parties). And there’s a structure blocking the empty pool from our view. Back downstairs to reception and for 30 euro (not bad) they changed us to a view of the small active pool.
Why not just inform us in advance we booked a premium room that overlooks a dead pool?
The bad stuff about the room. The internet didn’t work at all. 2MB down for the whole stay. I instantly understood why so many kids were down on the first floor laying about on their phones… Like - the worst internet of any hotel we’ve stayed at in Europe - and we’ve visited every EU country except Andorra. ;)
So, we had to pony up and buy eSims to get 5G and got totally decent 100+mb downloads for 35 euro each from another provider.
Also, the air conditioner came on - but did nothing for the room. Maybe needed more coolant? End of season and they’ll change it later? So the days were hot, and the nights we left the balcony door over.
The blanket was exceptionally thin. A gal could have used this sheer blanket for a beach outfit. But pillows were good.
Hot shower was great.
THE STAFF
We did have one incident… They have a vat of plastic balls in reception - big, that you can play in. Now I’m mid fifties, disabled, don’t drink adult - me and my wife climbed in and took some photos. We were tossing balls to each other and making photos while no-one else was around and all of a sudden a 20-something year old staff leans her head around the corner and shouts ‘NO THROWING THE BALLS!’ - I happen to not enjoy authority, don’t enjoy being yelled at. There were a thousand ways she could have done this.. ‘Hey, don’t toss the balls cause some people get crazy’ - end of story.. BUT NO.. this gal has to scream at us like we’re 16yo..
Again - the camp consular attitude. We left immediately and on the way out - just encourage her to not yell at the customers - it’s just disrespectful. They kept their eyes lowered.
Once outside - waiting for food delivery. I took a photo of her (inside) from a far distance so I could send to hotel management and low and behold one of the boys runs out and tells me it’s forbidden to take photos of staff (good luck with that as staff are everywhere by the pool) - and throws a fit. I explained I didn’t take a photo, it was a selfie, and he couldn’t look through my phone. He sat and stared at our every move after that.. Again - 50+, sober, disabled.. lol
THE REST
There are drug dealers right at the entrance that are there ALL THE TIME, everyday you have to walk by them asking if you’re okay and if you need something to smoke. Annoying - can’t the hotel do something about this? I don’t care about what they’re selling except it probably isn’t quality - and don’t want to see the kids buying this crap.
The pool was nice, but they shut it down at 8pm? Where is the Ibiza party?
Fun to stay once, but would pass on a second stay here. Too little comfort and too much ‘little people with little power’ - I do’t need to screamed at.
I know the hotel will probably argue that it was the end of the season and some of these shortcomings were unavoidable. But we were there for the closing parties, with David Guetta and other major names still performing. This happens every year. It's hardly a surprise. If the hotel needs to shut down pools, service the air-conditioning, or begin dismantling facilities, do it after the last guests have checked out, not during the final two weeks while people are still paying full price. Guests shouldn't have to experience a hotel that's already halfway closed."
