"We stayed at Sol Katmandu Park & Resort in Mallorca in September 2026 as a family with a young child. We booked a Family Room with half board through Bentour.
We chose this hotel mainly because it is presented as a 4-star family resort with attractions for children. Unfortunately, our experience was much more mixed and in several areas clearly below what we expected.
### Night-time noise and location
The biggest issue was the noise at night, which affected a significant part of our holiday.
To be fair, the hotel did try to help after we complained. We were moved to a room on the other side of the building, where the noise was somewhat lower.
However, the main problem comes from the immediate surrounding area. There are many bars, nightlife venues and adult-oriented clubs close to the hotel. During the night and early morning, heavily intoxicated people regularly walked through the surrounding streets shouting and screaming.
We repeatedly experienced this until around 5:00–6:00 in the morning.
Of course, the hotel cannot control the public streets or the businesses around it. But families booking a hotel marketed as a family resort should know what kind of area it is located in.
For us, this had very little to do with a quiet family holiday.
### Cleanliness and condition
Cleanliness was another disappointment.
The first room we received did not have any visible mould that we noticed. After moving to the second room, however, there were visible signs of mould on the silicone in the shower area.
The bed linen had clearly been washed, but several visible stains remained. The mattress intended as an extra bed for our child was also visibly dirty.
We did not use it because our child slept with us, but I would not have been comfortable letting him sleep on that mattress.
The hotel in general also felt worn and insufficiently cleaned for what is supposed to be a 4-star property.
### Hotel rules were not enforced consistently
Smoking was prohibited in certain areas, but guests still smoked there.
We had a similar experience with laser pointers. Children were using them extensively despite the fact that their use was explicitly prohibited by the hotel.
In our experience, staff often reacted only after we specifically complained or pointed the issue out.
In a hotel strongly marketed towards families with children, I would expect these rules to be enforced more consistently.
### Paid arcade machines everywhere
Another aspect that surprised us was the number of paid arcade and amusement machines throughout the hotel.
These were not just a few discreet games in one corner. They were a very visible part of the hotel environment, with bright colours, flashing lights, sounds and visual effects that naturally attract children's attention.
Almost every machine required additional payment.
As a parent, I sometimes felt more like I was walking through an amusement arcade than staying in a family hotel.
One or two machines would not have bothered me. The sheer number of them and the constant commercial stimulation directed at children is something I think parents should know before booking.
### Food and dining
The food itself was, in our opinion, average.
The bigger disappointment was the dining experience.
I understand that this is a large hotel serving many guests, but drinks were generally served in plastic cups. Around a swimming pool this is understandable, but as a general dining standard in a 4-star hotel it felt inadequate.
Breakfast also became very repetitive after only a few days.
I would have expected more variety, more fresh vegetables and a wider selection of fruit, especially in a family-oriented hotel.
The drinks mainly came from dispensers, and we did not really find what we would consider normal juice. On Mallorca, where oranges and citrus fruits are such a characteristic part of the island, that was disappointing.
The coffee was also below what I would expect from a 4-star hotel.
The food was not terrible, but the overall dining standard simply did not feel like a 4-star experience.
### Bentour support
Our package holiday was organised through Bentour, and this was another disappointment.
We expected practical local support in Mallorca if a serious problem occurred. In practice, the assistance we received felt very limited.
Alternative hotels were discussed, but the conditions and additional costs changed. One option was first discussed at around EUR 380 extra, later around EUR 730, and later other alternatives were around EUR 800 or more.
As a package-tour customer, I do not expect every problem to be solved immediately, but I do expect the organiser to actively help and provide a clear, coordinated solution.
We did not feel that this happened.
### Overall impression
The Katmandu Park concept itself is interesting, and the children's attractions were one of the main reasons we chose this hotel.
However, there was a clear difference between how the hotel is marketed as a 4-star family resort and what we actually experienced.
If we had known in advance about the intense nightlife, the noise until early morning, the cleanliness issues, the number of paid arcade machines, the dining standard and the limited support from Bentour, we would not have chosen this hotel for a family holiday with a young child.
To be fair, the hotel staff did try to help with our noise complaint by moving us to another room. I appreciate that.
But overall, this was not the family-holiday experience we expected from a 4-star resort."
