"As we have stayed many times in Playa De Las Americas (and like the area), we decided to stay in Costa Adeje as an alternative. I have some chronic health conditions which mean that my mobility can be limited at times (and dependent upon how much I do). Despite our travel company (Jet2) confirming that they had sent a request for a room on any floor but close to a lift, as well as receiving a confirmation email from the hotel a week prior, the person on reception said that they had no note of anything upon arrival. I should also note that on arrival, possibly because it was after 10.30pm, we were not offered the welcome drink nor were we given a particularly warm welcome (the young female didn't smile, show any pleasantries or really showed that she wanted to be there). We were placed in a room furthest away from the lift (Room 107), which upon entry, smelt very musty and damp although it was clean. The most damp smell was from the wardrobe and we decided that we would have to leave this open all the time to avoid smelly clothes. The bed felt quite damp but we thought that maybe this was the air con causing it to feel a little colder. When we awoke the next morning the smell was quite strong and we had to open the balcony door - bringing a much fresher smell to the room quite quickly. On the third day of arriving back in the room (early afternoon), the smell was unbearable and the bed was most definitely very damp so we notified reception. They didn't question it, offer to come and feel the damp or smell the room but said they would call back and offer another room (which they did). We then moved to another room on the 7th floor - smaller and overlooking the road but much more pleasant and actually, more refurbished compared to the very old and tired room we had been in. On this floor there was a used cotton bud on the floor outside the room which stayed there for the next 7 days - the cleanliness was generally a bit to be desired.
Around the hotel, most staff were very pleasant, particularly the lady who worked on the reception in the spa who was great when I tried speaking my recently refreshed Duolingo spanish with her - she really helped me along and recognised that I wanted to try and speak Spanish. I understand much more than I can speak. One of the females at the pool bar I found to be rude and brash and she was very dismissive of me when I requested a non-alcoholic cocktail (as I can't drink alcohol) - she wasn't the one serving me but was advising a new younger lady at the bar who was - I could certainly understand her speaking Spanish about me! Apparently, I discovered on checking out that a non-alcoholic cocktail is the same price as an alcoholic one (8.50) and was nothing more than a small tumbler with coconut milk, ice and pineapple juice mixed together. (Note, we were B&B only).
Breakfast was a generally positive experience - both of us tended to eat the same - porridge or omelette and fresh fruit although there was a range of so much - continental, pastries, full english, etc - all looked very nice but not for us (that's just our choice). The porridge was very 'hit and miss' - two days it was quite nice but the rest was either very runny with little porridge in or it was just cold. It was a clean environment and plenty of seating whenever you went in. We sat out on the balcony overlooking the sea on a couple of mornings which was very pleasant - if you go a little later you do need to queue to sit outside. Never really got much interaction from staff but I suppose you don't go on holiday for that.
Checkout was almost as problematic and unpleasant as check in - but I must give my thanks to Marina for her efforts and responses.
Unfortunately, too many negative experiences for us lead us not to want to return to this hotel. We have stayed at too many others that are cleaner, more updated and have many more pleasant staff than the H10 Gran Tinerfe. It's a shame as it's well-located, has access down to the beach (via stairs only though) and everything you may need only a short walk away."
