"The hotel has some lovely features, but unfortunately there were a few things that let it down for us.
When we first arrived, we were actually quite worried by the appearance from the front, as it looked very run down. We then realised that what we were looking at was actually the hotel next door, so don't be put off by your first impression when arriving!
On arrival, we were given a full tour of the hotel straight away. I can understand the idea behind this and it is a nice touch, but after a long flight and travelling all day, we would have much preferred to be shown to our room first and given the option of a tour later.
Our room was lovely and we really enjoyed having the pool. The hotel itself is very peaceful and relaxing with no party vibe at all, which we absolutely loved. If you're looking for somewhere to switch off rather than a lively party hotel, this is definitely one of its strong points.
However, some areas did feel a little unfinished, particularly around reception. There are areas that look as though they have been designed to be filled with water but are empty, which makes that part of the hotel look incomplete rather than having the luxury feel we were expecting.
The staff were generally friendly, although at times we found the constant attempts to chat a little much. It's lovely for staff to be welcoming and attentive, but sometimes you simply want to relax and enjoy some quiet time without feeling you need to make conversation.
We also regularly saw the owner walking around the hotel with her dog, often on a daily basis. There is nothing wrong with this in itself, but at times it made the atmosphere feel a little awkward and as though you were being observed rather than simply being able to switch off and relax as a guest.
We stayed for two weeks and found the breakfast became quite repetitive after that length of time. We only had lunch at the hotel once as, unfortunately, the food arrived cold, which put us off ordering lunch again.
There was live music and entertainment at the hotel, which was enjoyable initially, but over a two-week stay we found this became quite repetitive as well. Personally, I think this hotel would be lovely for a relaxing 3 or 4-night stay, but for us two weeks was too long as there wasn't enough variety.
The good thing is that the main town is only around a 15-minute taxi ride away and has loads of lovely places to eat, so we really enjoyed going out in the evenings and having a change of scenery.
One issue that was particularly frustrating was finding charges on our room for items we had not ordered. It took around 45 minutes at reception to get this resolved, with staff having to search for receipts while we waited. Rather than simply apologising and investigating the mistake, the whole conversation became far more difficult and drawn out than it needed to be.
This leads to probably our biggest disappointment with the hotel — the way management dealt with concerns. We found the response could be quite argumentative and defensive rather than apologetic and focused on resolving the issue. Mistakes can happen in any hotel, but it is how they are dealt with that makes the difference, particularly at a hotel of this standard.
Overall, there were definitely things we really enjoyed. Our room and pool were lovely and we particularly loved the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere and the fact that there was no party vibe.
For a shorter 3 or 4-night relaxing break, I think this hotel could be a really lovely choice. For a two-week holiday, however, we found the breakfast, entertainment and general hotel experience became a little repetitive. With a few improvements to the food offering, some of the unfinished-looking areas and, most importantly, the way management handles guest concerns, it could be a much better experience."
