"My daughter and I stayed for a week in room 3. I don't normally write reviews or take photos but felt obliged to here.
The hotel is in a pretty good location on the outskirts of the town. The hotel is set back from the road which affords it a more peaceful position with an attractively elevated view of the sea and neighbouring islands. The hotel is not remotely suitable for anyone with accessibility issues as the 100m walk from the road to the hotel is very steep and unless you are on the ground floor, there is no lift.
The pool is the best feature of the hotel. There are laid back seats and tables, good quality boutique sunbeds and two four poster couples beds. There never seemed to be a shortage of bed space. There is relaxed music, albeit on a daily repeat loop.
Breakfast is a typical buffet style with a cooked section, bakery section, some fruits and cereals, not extensive but fair for the small number of rooms. Zoe is the chef who is friendly and helpful.
Our room was essentially on the reception ground floor. A standard twin/double with a balcony which was adjacent to a grassed area that connected the other ground floor rooms. The room is not dressed prettily when you enter with the colourful throws or cushions etc as the hotel website suggests - plain and simple instead. Generally, it is a bit tired - as the photos show. The bathroom had cheap plastic fixings like the toilet roll holder. The shower door worked but was basic and was dirtied by thick limescale deposits to the surrounds and the handle - some of the deposits had turned green. The shower mixer tap again, was littered with limescale. The chromed sink tap and plug had surface corrosion. The doorframe to the bathroom had a sizeable chunk missing - not sure if some type of rot or something else. Around the doorframe to the toilet and front door, the stone floor times had lost their shine and were brown. The laminate floor was poorly finished around the wardrobe, whilst the wardrobe was tired with the drawers being particularly tight and very liable to catch the doors on opening. The room chair was tired with the fabric being noticeably marked. The door furniture (handles etc to the balcony) were dated, tired and loose. We had a TV - every TV channel in Greek, every radio station in Greek. A couple of radio channels had some UK/US music. Problem was, it kept on cutting out - showing “no signal” message. - so TV and radio in Greek only, if it works. The WiFi works best around the pool for us. In the room (maybe better or worse in other rooms), it cuts out sometimes and we found it worked better if we lifted the phones up (crazy!). You have only one metal key for your door and an attached metal key for a micro safe - no second key for both guests. Forget about safely securing your iPad in the safe as it won't fit. The corridor lighting at night outside rooms 1,2 and 3 is not great - only a single bulb half way along the full corridor is on - 6 other spotlights in each corridor half were off.
Now comes the bad bit. I wouldn't have wasted my time with photos or the above narrative but for this. Our room has a balcony which connects to the adjacent balconies with a grassed area - so relatively easy to access. Over the 7 night stay we noticed the balcony door was unlocked. Initially, we thought it was us forgetting. It became obvious on day 5 it was the maids not locking up. On day 5 we came back to the room to find the front door (which doesn't shut properly unless locked) physically open by a couple of inches. The balcony door was equally unlocked. I went to the reception to report it and the receptionist said it was not right and that she would speak to the maids. I recorded the conversation as the staff remarkably sometimes forget these things. I was calm but firmly said that this was not going to happen again was it? Next day, would you believe it, balcony door unlocked. I went to reception and advised that, and that I was not best pleased. The receptionist said she would ring the maids to come to reception. I said that I was on holiday and that I had reported it twice now to her and that I didn't want to get involved, but that I expected better. I expressly advised I did not want to get involved with the maids. I went to the pool and took a sun bed. Five minutes later, the receptionist with two made are next to me - how embarrassing. Also, I had expressly advised that this was a matter for reception and the maids - not me the ‘victim’ paying guest who is on holiday. The maids repeatedly denied not locking up. I asked them to leave. I said to the receptionist that the maids were totally wrong, and that she had not followed a word about dealing with it without me being present and especially not by the pool by other guests. The receptionist said they had come to apologise - I pointed out they had only denied it and not once apologised - that was witnessed by other guests and they stated afterwards that the maids had not apologised.
I went to the reception afterwards and readvised the above and how unhappy I was and how she had failed to follow basic requests and had embarrassed me in front of other guests. I asked her what her name was - Vaya or Vaia. I asked her to spell it- she refused.
The maid's attention to security was very poor. I have no doubt I locked the doors, especially after the front door was left open on day 5. I am good at locking doors at home and on my car etc and worked as a surgeon and feel that I have not lost all my powers of memory or acumen just yet. They then failed miserably to accept their errors - an apology would have worked. The receptionist equally made things worse - not properly dealing with it first time, failing to follow simple instructions which lead to an embarrassing scene and not advising me of her name. Very poor standards that the staff need to reflect on.
With a bit of effort, the hotel could have been a lot better. The worst part is obviously how I was treated - terrible and it was all their failings. You should have the right the expect safety in a hotel.
I hope this review results in the appropriate improvements at the hotel. I have correctly praised the good things and criticised the bad things."
