Quinta Bela Sao Tiago Hotel

"The Quinta Bella is a beautiful hotel With exceptional staff who were always polite and helpful. The gardens extend to a banana plantation. There are bird aviaries in the ground , I wish the birds were in reception in a better environment that’s my only negative about this hotel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with plenty of storage space, could do with tea/coffee facilities in the rooms unfortunately there’s isn’t at present. There is a spa again spacious but there are no treatments available this I feel is a lost opportunity. I highly recommend this hotel for its position to the cable car and restaurants in the old town. There is a very steep hill you have to climb to the hotel from the town but we found this ok . We only stayed bed and breakfast which was plentiful and good . We only ate dinner one evening but the menu is not varied the dinners in town had a better choice . Special mention to the reception staff who were lovely and friendly especially Lorraine."

"Wellness is advertised, but it just wasn't running. So sauna and steam bath. I had to complain about the air conditioning several times; it often cut out. We couldn't take advantage of dinner in the evening; there was a dress code. We only had hiking boots, flip-flops, and shorts with us."

"This hotel has a fantastic location but it is not a 4 star hotel. The rooms are very basic, the staff was not friendly, one of our rooms (we were a group of friends) had a big humidity stain on the floor and as a result the floor was not level and made it difficult to open the wardrobe. We made reservations directly through the hotel website and received an email confirmation. Well before we arrived a person was added to the group and so we informed the hotel that there would be an extra person in one of the rooms. We used the same email address of the confirmation email. When we arrived we were surprised to be told that they had no information on the extra person. The person had to pay full price for a room although they were sharing with someone else. When we showed the email we sent informing them, they told us they had not received it and that it was sent to an unknown email address!!! We complained immediately but were told that because it was Sunday, there was nobody present who could take a decision. Although they said they would address it the following day, a month after nothing has been done. Two people on the group landed very early in the morning and went to the hotel just to drop their luggage in the luggage room of the hotel. The staff at reception was extremely unfriendly. Finally we checked before arrival that there was a parking at the hotel. Unfortunately they forgot to tell us that they had very limited space available. By the time the people with the car arrived we were told to look elsewhere; again in a very unfriendly way. There are a lot of hotels in Funchal. Avoid this one."
