"My wife and I stayed here Friday night as we were going to see Katherine Jenkins at Bridgewater hall. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly lady who checked us in. She engaged with us and made conversation throughout. We stayed in room 822 which was spotlessly clean and a good size. We had access to the lounge too. It was a good size and had a good selection of soft drinks, coffee and tea. In the evening we had a bowl of nuts, canapés and couple of alcoholic drinks before we headed out. The gentleman looking after the lounge was very attentive. The huge negative of the lounge were the canapés. Very very poor quality. The bread was stale and then topped with tuna mayo, tomato and onion and a tasteless 3rd topping. Either do not do them and offer another couple of snacks or do them with pride and passion. As chefs ourselves they could be the worst canapés we have seen. The morning after we went in for a coffee after breakfast and the floor had not been vacuumed from the night before. Nuts and crisps were on the floor. Not what you would expect from a 4* hotel. It was nice that there was continental breakfast available in there. My wife had some pastries as there were non in the breakfast room downstairs. We asked if there was some more coming and we were told yes but 15 minutes later they had still not arrived on the buffet. So we left without. A few people were looking for them. This was around 9.12. As for the breakfast experience itself it was good but not great. The lady on the desk was lovely and friendly but her uniform was so creased. You would again expect a 4* hotel to demand an ironed uniform as standard. It’s small details sometimes that make huge differences. There was a good choice but the Crowne Plaza in Liverpool near the docks is far superior for breakfast and has a lot more options. The cold food and hot were all presented nicely here for what was there though. The bacon was a bit tough and very dry. I did not mind this as I had beans but my wife said it was not a good eat. The sausages were quite peppery too for a breakfast sausage. All in all most people will be more than happy with it but as mentioned elsewhere in the group they do it so much better. Liverpool is one of the best breakfasts we have had anywhere in the world. Another issue with breakfast was 1 of the 2 coffee machines was off. I assume broken so there was big queues for hot drinks. This hotel has a lot to like but it’s small things and attention to detail that lets it down. We would stay here again but it’s not our no1 choice in Manchester City Centre."
