"We have just come to the end of our stay at Mitsis Family Village and would happily rate it 5/5.
We travelled as a couple and stayed in a swim-up pool room, which was without doubt the highlight of our holiday. Having direct access to the pool from our room, along with sunbeds right outside, meant we didn’t use the main pool once. The room was comfortable, clean, and well maintained, with housekeeping every day and the mini bar restocked every other day. We were also lucky enough to have amazing views, which made waking up each morning even more special.
From the moment we arrived, the service was excellent. On check-in, the lady on reception (I believe her name was Georgia) suggested we head for lunch before completing the check-in process so that we didn’t miss it. It was such a thoughtful gesture after travelling and immediately made us feel welcome. Once we had checked in, a member of staff collected us and drove us directly to our room, which was another lovely touch and made arriving completely stress-free.
The staff throughout the hotel were absolutely amazing. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, hardworking, and couldn’t do enough for you. We genuinely don’t have a bad word to say about any of them, and they played a huge part in making our holiday so enjoyable. What stood out most was how hard they worked from morning until night, always with a smile despite the long hours and heat.
The food was good with plenty of variety, although it could feel a little repetitive at times. Our favourite food was actually down at the beach area – the pizza and gyros were excellent and became regular lunchtime choices for us. Another highlight was the crepe station. Crepes are available from 10am right through until 1am, which is fantastic whether you’re looking for a mid-morning treat or a late-night snack. The queues can get quite long in the evenings, but they are absolutely worth the wait.
The drinks were also good. The cocktails available were enjoyable, although we would have liked a few more options as the selection was fairly limited. That said, the quality was good and we always found something we enjoyed.
The beach area was great, and the hotel provides a golf buggy-style shuttle running between the hotel and the beach throughout the day. We were happy to walk down, but the walk back up is very steep, so having the shuttle available was a fantastic service and much appreciated, especially in the heat. The only thing to be aware of is that sunbeds can be limited. If you don’t get there early enough, the sunbeds with the green umbrellas can fill up quickly.
Although this is a family-focused hotel, we still had a great time as a couple and never felt out of place. There were daytime activities available, although we preferred to relax by our pool. The evening entertainment was enjoyable overall, with different acts such as singers, fire and LED shows, and games nights. Some nights were stronger than others, but our only real criticism would be that there was only one main entertainment act each evening. The mini disco ran from 8:30pm to 9pm, followed by the main entertainment from around 9:30pm until 10:30pm or 11pm, and once it finished, that was pretty much the end of the evening. We would have loved to see a little more entertainment or atmosphere later into the night.
That being said, the evenings were made incredibly relaxing by the service. Staff were constantly walking around taking drink orders, meaning there was rarely any need to queue at the bar. It allowed everyone to sit back, enjoy the entertainment, and make the most of the evening. The attentiveness of the staff really elevated the whole experience.
If we were being picky, clearer food labelling would also be helpful. On a few occasions dishes weren’t labelled, or labels were incorrect. For example, some ice cream flavours weren’t labelled and staff weren’t always sure which flavour was which. It’s only a small point, but something that could easily be improved.
There is a bus stop right outside the hotel with services to both Kos Town and Kardamena, making it easy to explore the island without needing a car.
Overall, we had a fantastic holiday. We always say we wouldn’t return to the same place twice because we like to explore new destinations, but if we were looking for a family-friendly holiday in the future, this is one of the few hotels we would genuinely consider returning to. The staff alone make it worth coming back.
Finally, a special mention for the swim-up room. It completely made the holiday for us and has probably ruined future holidays because it has now become a non-negotiable when we travel! If you’re considering upgrading, we would absolutely recommend it.
Thank you to everyone at Mitsis Family Village for a wonderful stay."
