Alykanas Village

"We stayed at this hotel end of August/beginning September. Here are the pros and cons. The main con is that there's a sewage stench permeating around the hotel off and on, every day. Sewage trucks come every day, sometimes twice a day, as you can see them parked outside the mini mart. Sometimes the stench is quite bad it makes you feel sick. Other areas of the island also have the same stench. There are also wasps and hornets everywhere apart from when you're in the sea, so if you are afraid of them, you won't be able to relax here. They will fly around you on your sunbed, as you walk along paths, and as you try to eat your dinner. Walking around the area isn't easy. It is definitely not accessible for the disabled. We didn't feel safe as pedestrians because drivers here don't seem to have any regard for your safety. They actually seem to AIM for you sometimes. It was very hot our entire stay. It said it was 34c, but it felt like 40c, and it was difficult even in the shade, which there is very little of. The buffet. Substandard. Worst buffet we've had in a hotel. Buffet room is dated and always very crowded and noisy. The mini pastries were good, though (apple pie pastry and spinach ones were really nice). Juices are awful. Feta cheese tastes cheap. Eggs are poor quality. Staff seem unhappy and annoyed when guests are in their way. Pools and sea. Relatively easy to get a sunbed as long as you put your towel out by 9am. Sunbeds are very low to the ground and they break easily. Pool temp is perfect. Pool areas are very pleasant, especially the pool nearest to the sea, although some families make virtual forts out of 7 or 8 sunbeds which can block your view of the pool and the sea. Very little shade, even with an umbrella. Walk to sea from pool is easy apart from the wasps and hornets flying around. Sea is absolutely stunning. Perfect temperature, usually no waves (we had two days of very fun little waves), shallow far out, and clear water. There are rentals very nearby. Kayaks, paddle boards, boat hire, and jet skis. Reasonable prices. Unfortunately you cannot walk along the sand and get to Alykes, the neighbouring resort. Things block your path, and you have to walk inland and over a bridge to get there. Rooms. Rooms are spacious enough and comfortable. Air con works well. Room comes with kettle and two small coffee cups, although maids dont change them every day. Beds are small and hard, but blankets are comfy. Walls are thin, and you can hear your neighbours. We had a flooding in the bathroom because i tried to have a bath, which caused a flood. We reported this to reception, who did nothing all week about it. So, you have a bathtub, but you cannot have a bath, only a shower. Maids tidy every day, but not a full tidy, and sheets are changed once a week. Fridge doesn't have a freezer. Mini mart. Mini mart is nearby, on the hotel grounds, but it's very small and limited in what you can buy. It does sell bottles of water, sodas, crisps, cookies, and offers sandwiches for just 2.60. Better to walk to the Spar. Nothing to do at night. Hotel offers no entertainment. INTERNET DOESN'T WORK because wifi is terrible. Download speed was .33. Most pages didn't load. Not able to watch YouTube, Netflix or even open mail. We didn't find hotel staff particularly friendly. The receptionist was abrupt and rude. And yes, they hold your passports ransom until you pay the tourist tax based on the hotel being a 4 star, which it isn't. You must pay this fee in cash. Restaurants aren't far off, but in this heat they FEEL far off. There are some really nice places, all of it outdoor dining, which means you're battling wasps. But the food is good, and the average price for a meal is between 15 and 20 euros. Would we return? Yes, but in a less hot month and hopefully fewer wasps and hornets. Could also do without the sewage smell. But the sea doesn't get better than this. It really was the best part of the holiday, as well as the quality time with loved ones."

"I personally think for the price of this hotel,it’s extremely expensive. There’s 4 pools and then the splash pad. Most popular one being the beach front one. As I had two young children we altered between splash pad and the smaller pool. The splash pad would be amazing if it had a lick of paint and the tiles not coming away,sharp and broken. My kids had to wear swim shoes bc they both got the feet on it in the first day,simply by walking in the splash pad. The beach in front of the hotel was littered with rubbish on the sides which again is a shame that this is happening. It wasn’t loads but enough to notice if you are sitting in the beach. The breakfast was your standard breakfast at a hotel. It was offered a range of fruit, fry up and continental. We skipped it a couple of times and opted for the bakery down the road which was lovely and fresh. The cleaners and staff were very helpful and friendly. Always waving at my kids and nothing was too much of a problem. The bed was really uncomfortable,despite a mattress topper and additional pilllows. I felt bruised waking up from the lack of sleep due to the bed. The location is really good. Steps to the beach. Shops and restaurants near by. Pools are spread out and as we went at the end of August/start of September it was relatively quiet. There was a sewage type of smell across the hotel at breakfast and again late afternoon. Would we come back? Maybe. But wouldn’t be happy paying the price we had made previously especially when the splash pad was dangerous and needed a lick of paint. It definitely needs an upgrade. We thought it was ran down in parts and for the facilities… was abit too basic for the price we paid. We were in the old block, with partial view of the kids pool. This was nice as we had our privacy and a nice view (not a carpark or a tree). The balcony was bigger than I thought. Could fit 4 of us around the table. Two single beds,half a walk to divide the double bed.small tv with a few channels. Basic bathroom. Again- clean,basic,food was fine, pools nicely spread out, staff were very helpful,friendly and kind. The let down was the splash pad as it is dangerous due to sharp and rough edges and broken tiles. My two still had injuries from this despite wearing water shoes. The sewage smell that lingered at times was nasty. It was nice but I worked hard all year to afford this holiday and it didn’t seem to be what I thought."

"Hotel situated in a great location. Main strip to the front of the hotel with bars, restaurants and shops and the beach to the rear. The beach is not the cleanest lots of plastics and bebris and no-one cleaning up so over the 2 weeks we were there grew increasingly bad. The hotel itself is no way a 4 Star. It's in major need of updating. We were in room 151 the room was smelly like sewage and it had mold, broken bath, the bathroom door didn't open fully as the toilet was in the way. Shower flooded the bathroom. The bed was rock hard and had to request a mattress topper which made it slightly more comfortable. The room cleaning left a lot to be desired. Staff miserable and unfriendly compared to every other hotels I have visited throughout Greece. I could go on. Smell of sewage throughout the hotel at times especially near the restaurant first thing in the morning. There are lots of pools, in my opinion the nicest being by the beach but again it was in need of update. Broken tiles sharp edges and many broken sunbeds. Lookey Lookey men did get annoying as there were quite a few of them throughout the day around the pool. TUI you need to look into the star rating of this hotel."
