Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American

"We arrived on October 6th for a four-night stay with another couple. As we were celebrating our anniversary, I had contacted the hotel in advance requesting a particularly nice room. We booked an Executive Room (30 sqm), as we really appreciate spacious rooms, and were delighted to receive room 426 – a beautiful corner room with wonderful views of Leidseplein, the canal, and the surrounding streets. This was my fifth stay at this hotel, and I can confidently say that room 426 was the best room I've ever had here. Highly recommended! We also booked breakfast, which was very nice, with a good variety of options. Both check-in and check-out were smooth, efficient, and pleasant. In my opinion, the hotel's location is simply the best in Amsterdam. Most of the city's major attractions are within a 10–25-minute walk, and several tram lines nearby make it easy to reach almost anywhere in the city. The nightlife in the surrounding area is fantastic, with plenty of restaurants, lively bars, and both large venues and cozy places to eat, drink, and dance. The only disappointment came at the very end of our stay. After four nights, I asked for a two-hour late checkout and was told it would cost €25 per hour – €50 in total. While I understand that hotels have policies regarding late checkouts, I found this a little disappointing, especially as a returning guest staying for the fifth time. A small gesture of flexibility would have been a smart way to encourage a sixth visit. Overall, we had a wonderful stay, and I would definitely recommend this hotel, particularly room 426"

"During my stay and reservation at the restaurant on the night of the 03/10/2026 the attitude of the main waiter attending to my table at the restaurant was very arrogant and dismissive (and for no reason). For such an expensive restaurant it should be expected a LOT more. Disappointing and not coming back."

"As it was pouring with rain I didn’t have the opportunity to explore the area but the room was really functional, very large bed exceptionally comfy and everything was laid out beautifully (no hunting around for power sockets or light switches!) Very personable and helpful reception staff (didn’t get his name!) Two things would have made it perfect - plugs in the basins which could be closed and proper sized bath towels which were on the thin side…would I stay again? Yes…"
