BQ Alcudia Sun Village

"We have just returned from BQ Alcudia Sun Village, and I wanted to leave a genuinely honest review of our experience. We are a family of four, with a 9-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son. Over the years, I have stayed in 3-star, 4-star and 5-star hotels, so I feel I have a good comparison when it comes to different standards of accommodation. In my opinion, BQ Alcudia Sun Village is much better than many 3-star hotels we have stayed in, and I genuinely feel this apartment complex deserves to be rated as 4-star. The complex is set back from the main resort area and is roughly a 7-minute walk from the beautiful Alcudia beach and surrounding shops, bars and restaurants. There is a good mix of nationalities staying here, predominantly German, English and Spanish guests, and everyone we came across was friendly. From the moment we arrived, the receptionist was very polite and helpful. Whenever we walked through reception, we would say “Hola”, “Buenos días” or “Buenas noches”, which was always met with a smile and a friendly response. We always encourage our children to try to speak some basic Spanish when we are abroad, which the staff seemed to appreciate. Pools There are three pool areas. The main pool is a great size and isn’t particularly deep. As an adult, I could stand comfortably throughout most of it, which makes it perfect for the Aqua Zumba and pool games that take place during the afternoon. There is also a shallow entrance area which is ideal for younger children, and the water was lovely and warm. Next to the main pool is another smaller, shallow pool which was also very warm. There is then the children’s splash pool, where we spent a lot of our time. With two young children, this was absolutely brilliant. There are slides suitable for different ages, along with a large tipping bucket which was a huge hit with our children. The splash pool is shallow, safe for younger children and, again, the water was lovely and warm. Entertainment The entertainment team are fantastic and work incredibly hard. There are plenty of activities throughout the day for both adults and children to get involved in. Aqua Zumba was a particular favourite for us — all four of us joined in and really enjoyed it. In the evenings, there is a mini disco followed by a show. The shows were different each evening and we thought the standard of entertainment was very good. Food The restaurant is a good size and we found the food to be very good. There was a different selection each evening, along with plenty of fresh fruit and salad. I genuinely can’t understand some of the poor reviews regarding the food. Having stayed in a number of different 3-star hotels, I can honestly say that for a 3-star all-inclusive complex, we thought the choice and quality of the food here were exceptional. My wife can be quite fussy when it comes to food, but she enjoyed every meal during our stay, which says a lot! There is also a snack bar serving food throughout the day, including burgers, hot dogs, pizzas, kebabs and chicken nuggets, as well as fresh fruit and salad. There is also endless ice cream throughout the day, which was obviously a huge hit with the children! The restaurant staff were friendly and worked extremely hard. A special shout-out to Francesco, who was always very friendly and made our daughter Connie feel particularly special. Connie has additional needs, and those small interactions really meant a lot to us. The bar also serves freshly made cocktails. There could sometimes be a queue during the evening entertainment, but it always moved quickly and the bar staff worked incredibly hard. Rooms The rooms are fairly basic, but they are clean and perfectly adequate for a family holiday. We received fresh bedding and towels every day, which is something you don’t always get in a 3-star hotel. The air conditioning worked well and kept the room nice and cool. Again, having stayed in plenty of 3-star accommodation before, the cleanliness and daily changing of bedding and towels were above what I would normally expect from this star rating. The Only Negative The only real negative I could mention is that the restaurant can feel a little like a free-for-all at busy times. There isn’t much direction or organisation when people are getting their food, so occasionally you get people pushing through or cutting across others. That being said, this is a very minor criticism when looking at our holiday and the complex as a whole. Overall As I said at the beginning, I have stayed in 3-star, 4-star and 5-star hotels, and I genuinely believe BQ Alcudia Sun Village is worthy of 4 stars. Of course, it isn’t a luxury 5-star hotel and I wouldn’t expect it to be, but when comparing it fairly with other 3-star accommodation we have experienced, I think it offers an excellent standard. I would be completely honest if we had experienced any major faults or problems, but we had a fantastic family holiday. The pools are excellent for children, the entertainment team are brilliant, the food was very good, the staff work extremely hard and the whole complex has a friendly atmosphere. Most importantly, both of our children had a fantastic time. We would happily return. 😊"

"Great well kept hotel and genuinely enjoyed this hotel with my wife and 2 young children 11 and 6 Upon arrival it really doesn't look much and same with check in but don't let this deceive you, it's a lovely small hotel and grounds which is very well looked after and clean. Room wise - spacious and comfortable for what is needed, plus kitchenette area if you need ..abit tired but still very good ! Cleanliness is also good with daily towels etc Noise from next door can be very obvious if you have noisy neighbours as the walls seem to be very thin. The staff in all areas are extremely friendly and welcoming, the quality of the food we thought personally was really very very good quality and fresh. Options at breakfast too...you couldn't ask for more. The pool was clean and always kept clean by the staff who work tirelessly and keep the food area clean near the lunchtime snack bars and tables. Entertainment was varied but very good..not always what we wanted as we go out alot of an evening but the shows we caught were good enough for what we expected. Cocktail and drink choices decent although the quality isn't great but we always think this in all inclusive hotels personally. The main negative really is the evening drink bar is heavily understaffed and very slow service which maybe a ploy to cut the amount of drinks people are drinking. The queue is always crazyily big and have to wait for a while to get drinks. They really could do with an alternative bar area to break up the waiting times on drinks. We didn't stay in the hotel much so this didn't bother us too much but if you wanted to stay inside then I would imagine it gets tiresome. Location wise..this hotel was perfect for access to playa de muro beach and bars and restaurants aswell as the bus stop for access to alcudia port and old town which was a few euros on the bus Bus gets very busy and no queue system so be prepared to be ruthless getting on. Overall.... Clean, well presented, good service and a very enjoyable stay."

"We loved BQ Alcudia Village, location was great, food was fresh and diverse, everything was cleaned on daily basis, entertainment team were amazing. The only thing that would let them down was the rooms that were a bit dated, also there seems to be a general smell coming from the water stream, but room was cleaned daily, shower was nice, and we had a great experience overall."
