Grand Hotel Sunny Beach

"Hotel itself was clean enough, but one of our rooms seemed to have a fly infestation to which we were told it was normal in hot weather. We asked for new linen as the flys were crawling in the bed but were told no. We bought insect spray and was told by staff that if we mark the walls with any dead flies we would be fined. Other than this incident the cleaners were really nice and helpful. The location of the hotel is excellent, you can go out the front or back, but when you check out your swipe access is removed so you become limited to one access. The hotel was full when we were there so the 2 lifts for the whole hotel was a nightmare. You got 6 people in the lift but if it went over the weight it just doesn’t move, they are very small. The pool is ok, it isn’t deep so you wouldn’t be able to swim but it was so full that you’d likely not be able to anyway. There isn’t enough loungers or seating for the guests when it’s busy. The food is typical all inclusive, but not the best. My Daughter is celiac and whilst the hotel states Gluten free, the restaurant staff didn’t understand when you asked. There are signs on the food which tells you if contains gluten but is inaccurate. There was spaghetti and pasta dishes which were clearly not gluten free but didn’t have the symbol. The dessert section doesn’t have individual labels, juts 1 generic label saying ‘desserts contain nuts, gluten, dairy’. The drinks again are typical all inclusive, but had good selection. They didn’t have certain drinks despite advertising them, even some of the payable drinks were not available but the bar staff were all nice. The restaurant outside called Pub is great, the staff are lovely and food/drinks are nice. We ended up there on numerous occasions. The staff on the reception desk were generally nice. However, one of the maids pushed my Daughter out of the lift when the maid entered with her linen trolley. We also asked for late check out and were told we can only get late check out if we paid €50 and all 8 of our party left 5 star rating with positive feedback on trip advisor."
