Copenhagen Admiral Hotel

"The hotel try’s its best to play in the big- boy league of upscale hotels - and in terms of charm and beauty, it succeeded. But in the end, it was far from a comfortable stay. We were there for 3 nights. Great location, really comfortable bed, friendly staff… but then it all falls apart. First, all the housekeeping supplies are stored in the hotel room hallways 24/7 near the elevator (you literally have to squeeze between them and the wall to get to your room) or, once you get past that, you then pass more hotel housekeeping supplies tucked away in little alcoves every few feet as you walk down the hallway to your room. You literally feel like you’re walking through some sort of a storage facility. The room was beautiful, but you quickly realize it’s not very functional. First, the air conditioning system in the hotel is horrible! On a moderately warm day (75 degrees/ 24 Celsius) the room cannot cool down. We set the thermostat to its coldest setting (17.5 Celsius), but the coolest it ever got in the room was 75 or 80 degrees. We had both the front desk and engineering take a look at the issue. They ended up bringing us a small fan to help us cool down the room. The fan was a little noisy, so it could not run while trying to sleep. None of this is what you would expect from a hotel of this caliber. We noticed that several guests left their doors open. If you do that and open your window you can get a bit of a cross breeze - which only helps slightly. We were told that since it was a very old building that the air conditioning is not very good. Also, since we were on the side that the sun hits, it’s hard to cool down. WHAT!?!?! They just completely renovated the entire hotel. On top of that, we paid extra to be on that side for the view! Then there’s the beam. Looks great in photos. Definitely gives the room the old-world vibe they are going for. In reality, WATCH YOUR HEAD! It is right at the end of the entry hall and you literally have to walk around it entering the room or going to the toilet. I was certain I was going to eventually hit my head, so I hung a luggage strap from the beam to remind me to duck or walk around it, especially if you get up in the night. After two days of no air conditioning, they offered to upgrade our room. We chose not to because we were traveling for 3 weeks and had a ton of luggage and had already set up all our belongings in the drawers and closet. To move for only one night would have been more hassle than it was worth. For the inconvenience, they then gave us a voucher for a free breakfast, but unfortunately, we don’t eat breakfast. It was a nice gesture. Quite honestly, I feel they should have probably comped us a night’s stay. Bottom line, I would not stay here again. For the price you can find much better hotels with functional air conditioning"

"We can’t say enough about the Admiral for the property and more importantly, the employees. Truly first class treatment. The location is excellent and the waterfront view rooms are memorable. You are looking across at the Opera House across the canal. They operate their own canal boat tour which includes the opportunity to order snacks and drinks for the ride. Bernardo, the concierge is so helpful and knowledgeable. The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom is spacious with plenty of counter space."

"We absolutely enjoyed our stay at the Admiral Hotel. The hotel is stunning and centrally located. The waterfront view is breathtaking at any time of day. The front desk staff and employees are very helpful and attentive. We love everything about this beautiful hotel and can't wait to return soon."
