"Purchased through Delta vacations, stayed 5 nights at the Crowne Plaza Republique in room 128 our travel friends were a few rooms down the hall same floor. Read reviews, thought this was a nice location, not a safe area, 1st night screaming and gunfire outside 4 many hours, 2nd night more gunfire, chanting, screaming, fireworks, flares, graffiti on outside of hotel , graffiti on statues across from hotel, for many hours ( rioting was due to "soccer " win/ however it didn't appear friendly, 3rd night was a feeding the homeless event which started out ok in the square across from the Crowne which for reasons I can't explain why they moved to the sidewalk under our windows, LOUD, Michael Jackson Thriller album played at least twice though blaring from a van that also had laser lights with street dancing, so loud our TV had to be turned up well into the night, our last night Friday was quite, we did speak to front desk and went to the front desk on the rioting night ( 100's of people) to check on the safety , definitely would NOT have wanted to have been outside during these events. On Thursday night our friends were pickpocketed which was another event that has a strike for this area. Homeless were peeing and pooing in the flower beds ( we saw this happening from our windows) and when you went outside there was a VERY strong odor of urine. Architecturally a pretty building,the furnishings did not reflect this, pictures of outside terrance area, plants are in sad condition , not like the pictures online. Front desk friendly but out of touch with the outside, seemed to be coached to say there was no way the Crowne has any control , so if thats true then I would advise you to not choose this location due to the loud outside/ safety/homelessness, which you had to walk through to get to the front door."
