"The hotel presents itself as 5 star. If you judge it by service standards, it is at best 3 stars.
The positives: beautiful interior, the Alfred Sommier suite is beautiful in true Parisian style.
The negatives:
For any city hotel, the two essential aspects that form your experience are the quality of your sleep and the quality of your breakfast.
The breakfast is basic and bland. No choice of a la carte menu. That’s the most one could write about it.
The sleep is nonexistent. I stayed at the hotel with my wife and two small children. On the very first night, at 3 am, our next door neighbours started shouting, arguing and fighting. I called the reception, and the receptionist went up to talk to the neighbours, who were drunk and didn’t speak any english. The continued causing chaos (which with paper thin walls felt like it was happening in our very own room), so I called the reception another 2 times at which point he said, he has exhausted all options. The noise continue until 7am at which point presumably the drunken neighbours got tired and fell asleep.
I asked the reception to request a conversation with the manager. The following morning after breakfast I spoke with the manager, Richard de Warren, in person. After a few minutes of pleasantries and pretending to be interested in my background, my profession and everything other than the matter at hand, I pressed Richard to address the issue, suggesting that the neighbour causing trouble be made to pay for my first night at the hotel. The manager took my details and told me to leave the matter with him and to await the resolution. The following day, when I heard nothing back, I asked the reception to provide some information upon check out. The receptionist called Richard, and I heard him as in french (which I speak) whether I have left a deposit with the hotel (which I have). The phone was then passed to me, so I could speak to the manager, who made the most ludicrous suggestion that I pay in full now, and the hotel will reclaim the penalty from the neighbours later. Saying that this is clearly ridiculous and pushing back, I asked whether there is any concession he is willing to make. He said I am trying to take advantage of a situation which was not his fault, which I responded to by saying the provision of peace at night IS the responsibility of a 5 star hotel. I said my review will reflect my experience, at which point Richard showed his true colours of a common thug, and said if I write a bad review, then I will receive even less money (to be supposedly reclaimed from the other guest, who had already checked out just before me). Quite appalling really.
Overall, there are plenty of excellent hotels in Paris and in the area. Steer clear of this pathetic place."
