"A delightful location for this gorgeous hotel. We found it to be beautifully clean with extremely diligent, friendly & helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble.
I went with my octogenarian parents and we were all treated so well.
The two pools are both very nice, with comfortable sunbeds but would benefit from some small tables - the snack bar is close by with superb views of the bay. Sofia and her team were delightful.
Breakfast was excellent with a great array of choice and everything I tried was delicious.
Efficient taxis into town were so useful for us but you could walk there in 25 minutes.
Every morning I went for a 7am walk and sometimes a swim at Amoudi beach where there always friendly locals having a dip. Stunning beach! We went twice for the day and my parents found it easy to access the water because of gentle sloping sand and nice incline so you are out of your depth after not too much wading! Fabulous bar restaurant there too!
We were glad to be B&B as we loved exploring the town a bit in evening or walking to Kri Kri restaurant up the road which was fabulous.
I think half board is probably food value but it seemed that the hotel tends to do rather large gourmet menu and a few guests we chatted with found it too much. I think if you decide to eat there in the B& B package you have to precook and it’s a min sirens if 50€ a head with drinks which you might find a bit steep. We were early in season so hotel bit full, but the hotel did seem a bit lacking in atmosphere in the evenings in restaurant and bar areas. These are such amazing spaces with fabulous views - really tip top, but they would benefit from a theme night maybe a couple of times a week, with a cheaper more basic set menu? I would put up fairy lights round in restaurant & bar think that would help to cheer them up. And offer lighter menu of dips & salad etc for those who’ve been out all day on a trip with lunch and decide to stay in for the evening.
The snack bar could be open later too! Again another fabulous location and view.
One other downside is that the ‘beach’ isn’t private to the hotel although right outside, and it’s rather the end of the inlet with not much tide or flowing water. Very pretty to look at the moored boats etc and sit there in the sun or shade for a while but I wouldn’t recommend swimming there. It was a bit muddy and we waded in a bit and decided not to swim.
Eirini on the desk was so helpful & knowledgable about the area, her home town and she recommended some fabulous restaurants for us.
The Spinalonga trip was good, although big busy with a lot of people. You have to pay extra to alight in the island and walk round. Take a hat. Read The Island by Victoria Hislop first if you can. The area we later moored to swim wasn’t suitable for my 87 year old dad as it’s a bit of a climb on a dusty, rocky path to another cove 5 mins away. Also quite hairy descending the narrow ramp with ropes on each side but he managed!
Nikos the new hotel manager couldn’t have been more helpful and I think he will make a few changes to improve the evening atmosphere so it is more attractive proposition to stay in rather than always going out.
All in all, a relaxing hotel, amazing staff, lovely rooms, incredible views and very good facilities."
