Royal Hotel and Suites

"We stayed here for five nights. At first, we were a bit shocked because, upon arrival, we had to check twice whether this was the correct hotel. The hotel seemed much smaller than it appeared in the pictures on Secret Escapes. After we complained to Secret Escapes, we were moved to another room, which was better maintained than the first one. We were quite disappointed initially because this was supposed to be our all-inclusive vacation. When we asked for a bottle of water, we were told that we had already received one in our room and could refill it at the bar whenever needed. There is also no minibar service. You have to keep the water bottle provided on arrival; otherwise, you will be charged extra for a new one. Nonetheless, the food at the buffet was really good, and there was a wide variety of dishes available. The staff was also very kind and made us feel comfortable, even though we were annoyed at the beginning. This is a family-run hotel, and the owners and staff do their best to provide good service. The iced coffee was also very good. There were not many dessert options, but the overall dining experience was enjoyable. The beach is less than a 10-minute walk away. "Great location with some lovely friendly staff. We stayed in the new block, so had a lovely apartment, situated above those, with their own pools. There was an extension to this block, being built when we were there. We enjoyed the food. In addition to the buffet there was a fresh grill area, that served freshly cooked meat and seafood, and pasta dishes. There was also a separate grill area near the pool,that offered burgers, Gyros etc, during the day. Alcohol was mixed. Beer was okay served in small glasses. White wine and red wine were drinkable. The Rosé not so much. Local Brandy and Ouzo were fine. A G&T, so so. The cocktails came out a machine ( as did the gin and vodka ) They were brightly coloured and mostly tasted the same, I tried one of each, on the first day and didn’t finish one. Absolutely awful. They really let the hotel down. The pool was fine, apart from the tiles being green around the top. They need to up their game, re pool maintenance. Grounds were lovely and spacious. Location great for town. Really enjoyed the beach, some great bars you can hire sun beds from. Much cheaper than the hotel beach bar. I would recommend getting the bus, from the stop, 5-10 minutes, from the hotel, to visit Afytos, a beautiful town. We went there a few times. Overall an enjoyable holiday. We would consider returning."
