Attractive, family-run hotel
The Marelen Hotel is a family-run affair that’s won a ton of awards and recently been refurbished. It’s got a great setting, just a five-minute walk from Caretta Beach, Zante’s famous turtle nesting spot. And the bright light of Kalamaki aren’t much further on. This is a peaceful property, designed in a traditional Greek style – think pastel-hued walls and terracotta rooftops, all spread among gardens of palm trees.
The outdoor scene promises something for everything. There are three pools, including an adults-only number, one just for little ones and another for both. Tots will adore the sweet splash park, too, which comes with slides, spray fountains and tipping buckets.
Take your pick from two restaurants at mealtimes. The first is a buffet-style eatery, specialising in round-the-world dishes and show cooking stations. The second is a stylish a la carte restaurant up on the rooftop, fusing Greek cuisine with mood lighting and stellar sea views. There are too smart bars for sunset and after-dinner tipples.
