Comfortable, central base for exploring Reykjavik

If you're after a modern, comfortable and centrally located base for exploring Reykjavik – and perhaps further afield, too – the Hotel Klettur certainly fits the bill. It's on a quiet street just a few minutes' walk from Laugavegur (the city's main boulevard, running through the middle of downtown) and within easy reach of the waterfront.

A 10-15 minute walk will take you to the iconic Hallgrimskirkja, which dominates the city's skyline with its distinctive, rocket-shaped tower. Just around the corner, meanwhile, is Hlemmur Mathöll – a lively food court in what used to be the city's main bus terminal. There, you'll find everything from modern Icelandic cuisine to authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas and top notch Mexican street food, as well as several bars serving all kinds of local beers, cocktails, and plenty more.

    It’s virtually impossible not to walk up and down Laugavegur a few times while visiting Reykjavik – especially when staying at this hotel, which is just a few minutes away from it. Here, on what is undoubtedly the liveliest street in the whole of Iceland, you’ll find everything from cosy craft beer bars and trendy fashion boutiques to artisan bakeries and even a Michelin star restaurant. It’s also the best place in the city to hunt for souvenirs.
