Hotel Stella Maris

"We stayed at this hotel for 5 days with our friends and had a fabulous holiday. The hotel’s bedrooms were very clean but basic and of a good size. Ours had a large terrace which had a brick wall as overlooked the car park. We stayed on a half board basis which was excellent value. The food was absolutely delicious and the pastries and desserts were outstanding! The service was poor at the start of the holiday in the restaurant with eggs being ordered for breakfast that never arrived even though we chased 3 times. Later things had improved although some male staff were a little grumpy but may have been our lack of ability to speak Italian. We were very disappointed though to not be able to eat breakfast or dinner outside on their beautiful terrace even though the weather was fabulous the whole time. We did ask if we could but were told it wasn’t possible which was such a shame! Lunchtime and bar service was always friendly outside. The hotel always seemed very quiet outside and there was no problem finding sunbeds or places to sit. The beach is absolutely beautiful with fine sand and a gentle shelving beach leading into the crystal blue sea. It would have been nice to have a beach drinks service rather than having to collect our own drinks from the inside bar. One evening there was a DJ and a singer which was great but the other evenings there was no music and it was a bit quiet sitting outside enjoying our drinks. The gardens are beautifully presented and have wonderful views of the sea and mountains. We loved the hotel overall and would definitely come back. The town itself seamed a little quiet when we visited at the end of May but apparently is very busy in the height of summer. "

"Stella Maris Hotel is a modernized Jesuit convent. It has been beautifully renovated yet still maintains whispers of the past. The gardens and pool area are serene and lovely. The bedrooms are disappointingly small. Ours had one electrical outlet far away from the bed. Beds were comfortable and room was clean. The dining-room staff with the exception of the female concierge and one younger male waiter were the worst I have experienced in a very long time. They were disinterested and abrupt The diningroom manager ( in a suit) was irritable and dismissive. Long wait times for water/ coffee etc. Sometimes it just didn’t arrive. We saw an elderly couple get up and grab salt/ pepper and then later to get olive oil. You were designated seating in the back diningroom although there were open tables in the front dining room which had beautiful views. Maybe related to if you were doing half board or not? Diningrooom was at half capacity as it was the shoulder season. Food was at best average with limited offerings if you were doing half-board. We definitely would not recommend the half board option."

"Very nice place, view is fantastic. We booked a suite from last year but we got the wrong one. Thanks God we could change nest day. Beach and Garden are fantastic. Price for drinks a bit too high - we would drink more aperol spritz if the prices would be more the average of Villasimius and not almost double. But however - we can recommend this place as it is one of the best location in South Sardegna"
