Historic Hotel next to Dam Square

Step back in time with a stay at Hotel Die Port Van Cleve, which has been an Amsterdam institution for over 150 years. Located in the city’s historic centre on the site of the former Heineken brewery, it’s right next to Dam Square and within easy walking distance of cultural landmarks like Anne Frank’s House and the Royal Palace, as well as Centraal Station, where you can catch quick connections to the airport.

Stop by Die Blauwe Parade, the hotel’s authentic Dutch bar, to try an assortment of local beers in traditional surroundings, including the world’s largest Delft blue tile fresco. Hulscher’s restaurant is known for its steaks, which they have been numbering since they were first served here in 1874 – as it stands, they’ve sold almost six million!

    Anne Frank House

    This museum is a poignant memorial to Anne Frank and her family, who hid from the Nazis in a secret annexe at the back of the house during the Second World War. The rooms where the family sheltered have been preserved, giving a moving glimpse into their plight. From the hotel, you can reach the museum on foot in under 10 minutes.
     

    Heineken Experience

    Before it was a hotel, Die Port Van Cleve was the site of Heineken’s original brewery – so it makes sense to take a tour of the oldest Heineken brewery still in operation! From the hotel, it’s a picturesque 25-minute walk along the canals or a 10-minute journey by public transport. You’ll learn about the history of the iconic lager, as well as the processes that go into making it. When you’re finished, you’ll get to have a taste, and even pour yourself a pint. 

    Public transport

    There’s loads to see within walking distance, but plenty more just a hop away on public transport. The hotel is only 10 minutes on foot from Centraal Station, for fast rail links to the airport and Metro links across the city. You’ll also find tram and bus stops outside the station.
