RIU Madeira

"We stayed here for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is beautiful, with a great location looking out over the sea. It is a short transfer from the airport, but there was zero noise. Our room was clean and well maintained, food in the buffet was always good with a wide range available. Staff are a real plus point, and I hope they are valued by the hotel management. Very friendly, constantly busy, making sure everything ran smoothly. We got the free shuttle bus into Funchal, which we would definitely recommend. Another plus point is the amount of sunbeds. There are so many and not a hint of people trying to save them. Other hotels should take note. Nice indoor pool, which we used a couple of times. A very relaxing stay."

"We stayed for 8 nights in a group aged from 23 - 64 and we all enjoyed it. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were kept spotlessly clean by housekeeping but they do start early so remember to put the Do Not Disturb out if you want a lie-in. Plentiful sunbeds - the hotel was pretty full while we were there and there were loads spare. Food was excellent, tasty with lots of choice, but a bit more variety would have been nice. There have been food theme nights at other Rius we’ve stayed in - Asian, Italian etc. and it would have added variety to see that here. The à la carte is a much more intimate venue, but don’t worry too much if you can’t get booked in there - we preferred the food in the main restaurant anyway. It’s about 20 mins outside Funchal but there is a free shuttle at 9.30/10.30/11.30 back 3/4/5 or a Bolt is about €10 (yellow taxi about double that). It’s a quiet hotel so if you’re looking for a party vibe it’s probably not for you, but we all had a great time and wouldn’t hesitate to go back."

"Riu Madeira, a very good and comfortable hotel. The staff are polite, competent, and smiling. Very good cuisine, tasty and varied dishes, a large selection of meals. The pool area is very good, outdoor pools with sunbeds, indoor pool, spa. There is a seaside promenade by the hotel. The hotel bus takes guests to Funchal. I recommend this hotel."
