Magic Pirates Island

"Overall good experience as it was our first time visiting a Magic hotel. The resort had good modern facilities and we chose this resort over Magic Natura due to the 3 pools at the resort. Originally missed out on a room at the Kranken pool but glad we ended up at the Battleship pool end as the pool was suited to our son, who enjoyed the bigger slides and flumes. The main entertainment and atmosphere was also more lively at this poolside. We also spent a day at the Kranken pool also and was great as our toddler got to explore the slides there too and enjoy an ice cream. Our room was set up nicely in the main room as we were celebrating our 10yr anniversary, with towel swans, wine, chocolates and Prosecco. A nice touch. We also got an earlier check in and offered lunch before the expected 5pm check in time. A bonus. We paid extra for a better located premium room at Battleship pool and was worth it for ease and close proximity to the pool. A couple of downsides were the size of the kids room with the bunk bed was on the small side and could really just fit the beds and no more with a sliding door. Although very clean, housekeeping did knock on our doors a couple of mornings to see if we wanted or room serviced there and then. Unfortunately their timings for food and entertainment at 10pm was so late my boy would still be sleeping until the late morning. After all, we were on holiday. The staff at the 7 seas buffet restaurant were excellent. Cristina was very friendly and attentive and tried to go above and beyond. Simona and a tall Asian member of staff who worked evenings were very helpful, especially as my kids wanted to have milk for their drink when it wasn’t readily available at dinner time. It was the small gestures that made it for us and life easier with the kids eating out. Unlimited access to the Zoo and Water park were a bonus and kept the kids busy. The zoo was proper zoo and had a lot of different animals and play park which the kids enjoyed. A 2 minute walk from our resort which was great and access to food and drink inclusive at the water park with all inclusive package. We originally were going to do a package with an Airline but ended up booking direct with Magic Pirate Island resort as it was cheaper and they offered a discounted rate. Ended up with a better premium room and location. They also offered a free transfer but we could not book it for the life of us. So we decided to go for a private transfer ourselves and it was cancelled as it was so last minute as we were trying to book the free transfer and ended up with an airport taxi at €105. We tried to book a private transfer for the return journey 3 days in advance with the hotel but were told to call an outside line and when we did 3 times were told they didn’t speak English and would get a call back. Had to fill in an online request form to book it and received no confirmation they received it or not. We tried every day until our last day and again at reception until a manager intervened and then told it was full. They then booked us a taxi but it still cost us €90 on the way back so spent an extra €195 unexpectedly. My son lost his tablet on the last day in the room and we called several times and emailed when we realised at the airport on our return journey. They had my number but failed to call when the room was cleaned. (The rooms didn’t have a phone and they checked everything was ok when we arrived). We stayed an extra 2 hours after check out time and paid extra €20 for it and still was there for another 2 hours before our taxi to the airport but no one contacted us to tell us after housekeeping had been in to clean it. I emailed them again day after and still no response. It would have been a perfect holiday if not for those couple of things. Would say I would go back for the facilities but maybe try a different Magic resort."

"We stayed at Pirates Island and had both good and bad experiences. The pools and water park were enjoyable, and the children had fun. However, there were communication problems with some staff, especially when ordering food and drinks. The menus were limited, and when I tried to order chips, staff did not understand me. I had to use my phone to show what I wanted. Housekeeping made the beds and tidied the room, but stained bedding and pillowcases were not always replaced during our stay. This was disappointing. The hotel is good for families, but customer service and housekeeping could be improved. Overall, an average stay. 3/5 stars."

"Review from our stay: Check in/check out: We arrived just after midnight. The check in staff were rude! Didn’t say a word to us, just spoke in Spanish the whole time to the security guard. Nothing was explained to us and we had to drag our cases and children across the resort to our room, feeling awful for all of the rooms we were dragging our cases past! Wristbands were left in an envelope for us to sort, but we couldn’t put these on until the morning as there was 2 of each colour and we didn’t know what were adults and what were children’s. Unable to book a buggy for the check out so had to drag everything back through the resort with our 3 children. Room: We stayed in a battleship room. The rooms were very tiny for a family of 5! There was no cot in the room for our toddler, and no mention or help with this. Our 18 month old ended up having to sleep in the middle of us in the double bed for our entire stay. Resort: Very clean! Upkeep of the pools was fantastic and they were always clean and everywhere smelt fresh! Never worried about getting a sunbed, security were strict on removing towels before 10am. Pools: Be very cautious of the sudden dips! Common sense but don’t leave your child unattended! Very cold to begin with, but did soon warm up! Staff: Rude! Bar staff didn’t want to be there, rude and ignorant! Several times gave us the wrong drinks we had asked for and just shrugged their shoulders and served someone else. Food: Personally for us, who are not fussy eaters - it was atrocious! The kids wouldn’t even eat the chips! We wasn’t expecting much and as we are familiar with Benidorm, we had already planned to eat out for every evening meal. And I’m glad we had prearranged this!! There was no queuing in place, just a free for all! Usually had to wait for a table to be cleaned. Food was awful quality, but again, this is our individual view. Would love to know who enjoyed eating the pig trotters?! 🤢 Entertainment: Signposting was awful to the amphitheatre. Grown adults pushing to get through quicker! Children out of control climbing all over scaffolding, hurting themselves. Highlight for our children was watching the peacock that visited! Zoo/waterpark: Waterpark was quite a walk up/down hills for toddlers! Sunbed situation was a bit confusing as prices were above the sunbed areas and we were told we needed to pay! Pool was very cold here, a huge section was sectioned off for ‘vip’ which was where people could pay extra. Zoo was lovely. We did it over 2 days as was so hot and a lot of walking! We took a drink from the hotel to have whilst walking over and purchased drinks whilst there. Highly recommend taking your own cups! They fill them up to the top regardless of size, and this is beneficial when you see the queues!"
