Beach break in sunny Salou
Close to the bustling centre of Salou, stay at Best Mediterraneo and everything from the popular sandy beach to the crowd-pleasing PortAventura World will be within arm’s reach. The latter – with its bumper selection of water slides and theme park rides – is about half an hour’s stroll, or less than 10 minutes’ drive from the hotel. If you choose to travel via Reus airport, this hotel is around a 25-minute drive away.
Days here are best spent kicking back by the big, curvy pool that’s got pride of place on the terrace. Expect light entertainment throughout the day courtesy of the animations team, and a playground where the kids can blow off a bit of steam.
If you fancy exploring on the other hand, you’re well placed for that, too. Lace up your walking shoes and check out the nearby coastal trail that’ll take you past the resort’s landmark lighthouse. Or, if you’re happy to navigate the local trains, Barcelona is about an hour and a half away, so it makes an ideal day trip.
Back at base you’ll find the restaurant lays on generous buffets at mealtimes, while the pair of bars keep the drinks flowing throughout the day and into the evening, when you’ll be treated to a spot of live entertainment. Hole up in the hotel or check out the nightlife in the resort – the choice is yours.
