At first glance, this hotel mostly appeals to a business traveller (the ample meeting rooms are the first giveaway). But there is plenty going for it if you’re on holiday too. For starters, an outdoor pool is open seasonally, with a bar beside it so you can linger with drinks on a hot day. And there’s a terrific restaurant, El Verdil. It skews slightly formal and has a menu of seasonal dishes, often slow-cooked, drawing on Mediterranean and Asian influences. The atmosphere is a little more relaxed out on the terrace, where you can eat and drink surrounded by greenery. It also makes a great spot to enjoy a leisurely buffet breakfast.

The rooms are generously sized, providing much more space than the average hotel room. Each comfortably sleeps up to four guests, making them ideal for families or groups. There are also things you don’t usually find in your run-of-the-mill room, such as a dining table if you fancy ordering room service after a busy day out exploring Madrid.
