Capital’s Sian Welby swaps the studio for the back of a cab live on air, after a last-minute easyJet deal proved too good to ignore
Listeners of Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby were left surprised yesterday morning as host Sian Welby left the studio mid-broadcast.
The presenter, who was live on-air with co-hosts Jordan North and Chris Stark, said she decided to “Drop Everything” after spotting an irresistible last minute easyJet trip on her phone and simply had to find out more.
In a move that blurred the lines between high-stakes radio and a serious case of wanderlust, Welby continued hosting the show via a live mobile link from the back of a London black cab, after spotting a last-minute easyJet deal too good to pass up. Listeners were treated to a real-time demonstration of just how quickly a great deal can change your plans, mic in hand or not.
Siân’s “holiday dash” follows the launch of easyJet’s new "Drop Everything’ flights, to help people browse and book a wide range of flights leaving within 48 hours, making it even easier for people to book a last minute, great value break this summer. From today easyJet has flights departing from just £47.99 for those wanting to jet off as soon as possible.
Findings from a new survey by easyJet and easyJet holidays reveal the traditional planning rulebook is being rewritten, as over a third of Brits (35%) say they are opting for a last-minute summer holiday this year. This is driven by an overwhelming consensus (73%) that some of the best trips are booked at the drop of a hat, with half the nation (49%) ready to pack their bags in under 48 hours for the right getaway.
Gen Z is leading the spontaneous charge, with over a third (38%) claiming their best trip ever was booked less than three weeks before departure, while 69% of Gen Z and 50% of the wider public say they regretted not taking a last minute trip they had the chance to. The ultimate roadblock is the group chat, which has caused a third of Brits to miss out entirely simply because they couldn’t get friends organised in time.
An irresistible last minute flight or package is the ultimate trigger to drop everything (42%), followed by the need to escape work week dread (25%) and wanting to use up left over annual leave. One in six (17%) also cited ease of booking last minute as something that would convince them to book a last minute getaway.
When Brits do make a break for it, short-haul European classics like Spain, Greece, Portugal, and Italy are the ultimate go-to destinations for easy access, minimal planning, and maximum value.
“I’m working until 10:00 AM, but I’ve just seen the ‘Drop Everything Flights’ that easyJet have launched on their website, which helps everyone find so many tempting options available in the next 48 hours," said Welby from her taxi. "I love family holidays abroad, and this helps makes even travelling last-minute so easy - it's a total game-changer. and I did actually manage to ‘drop everything’!”
Siân also said: ” I am a new mum and I am never spontaneous, that’s it I am getting myself a last minute flight & date with a poolside lounger” “Taxi to the airport please“ handle the decks - I’ve got a poolside lounger waiting. Sorry, Global!”
