This is known as one of the party capitals of Europe. There’s a huge party scene here with bars and clubs filled to bursting and people dancing and drinking the night away. But this is mostly contained in a single long strip and there’s plenty of space for families or couples looking for something a little different in their holidays. With five kilometres of beach out front, there’s room for all to share the space.

The winter months are when you’ll find the discounts and there’s still a high chance of rain-free days to explore the beautiful, historic island – without being crowded out by thousands of other tourists.

In addition to nearby Rhodes Town, there are plenty of diverse day trip options. Head inland for 30 minutes by car to the enchanting Valley of the Butterflies; a network of pathways and wooden bridges lead through the forest and from May to late September it is draped in butterflies. Or go south for 40 minutes along the coast road to Lindos and its archaeological sites covering 5000 years of human history. The village is packed with charming traditional cottages, overlooked by an impressive Acropolis. Rhodes may be small but it is packed with drama and discovery.

The coastal route takes only a few minutes longer, and it’s worth it for the views and sparkling sea. Rhodes Town is definitely worth exploring. This medieval town is a network of more than 200 streets and alleyways, a labyrinth of ancient churches, charming cafes, crumbling fortresses and unique, quirky shops. It’s one of a handful of mediaeval cities left in the world, living history waiting to be explored.

Faliraki is known for its party atmosphere and the nightlife that brings people here is some of the wildest in Europe.
